Hip-hop...

Summer is about fun, and fun is about collaborating.

Hip-hop never sounds so good as when artists get together and fuse their creative genius. And BBQs are always more enjoyable when everyone gets together and brings a little something.

Perfect for your next BBQ party, this hip-hop mix fuses Royal Ruckus, J-Qwess, Spoken Nerd, Sareem Poems, Fabio Musta, Pigeon John, Akil of Jurassic 5, Busta Rhymes, J. Rawls, Sadat X, Mars iLL, Deepspace5, Alex Goose, De La Soul, Flynn Adam, Public Enemy, KRS-One, Far East Movement, Sufjan Stevens, Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, Lateef, Cappadonna, Redcloud, Shwayze, Pete Rock, C.L. Smooth, A Tribe Called Quest, and others.

And these artists took the time to do the fusing for us. No fancy turntable mixes involved here. Just hand-picked the collaboration songs, and made them friendly for you!

Download the mix here.

1. I don’t really want more integration with Google services. My primary work depends on Google services. Integrating my social networking only tempts me to utilize it more often for unrelated activities. This is the reason I dumped the Flock browser after a week.

2. I’m not particularly impressed with better friend management. It’s cool. But Facebook will copy it or improve on it in no time flat.

3. Better mobile app? Maybe with time, but there is no mobile app for iPhone yet. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

4. Easier to find stuff to share? Neat idea, but I find stuff to share from Facebook and twitter because I have developed a network of people who care about what I care about. I really don’t need Google’s help. I’ll tinker around with this and perhaps I’ll take these words back.

5. This one wins. I like to keep my data.

6. Better photo tagging? If you do things you’ll regret showing up online, I guess this would matter to you. I don’t do anything I’m afraid people will know about, so this doesn’t appeal to me. No facial recognition software? Not an improvement.

7. I don’t care about group chat. The only thing I can imagine using a video “hangout” for is business, but there are already plenty of ways to do this. If you like group chat, fine. I don’t need it, nor want it.

8. Safer content sharing? Easier to do? If you don’t know how to do this on facebook, you aren’t doing it right. (It’s next to the share button…)

9. Maybe Google is a better steward of your personal data. Seems to me, time will have to bear this out a little…

In the end, there are 700 million people on Facebook now, including my mother and grandmother. I’ll never be able to get them to make the switch. I’m very pleased with twitter, tumblr, and other niche social networking sites. For me, it’s more like Google minus.

Other food for thought:

Google Plus: Why Google Must Fall

Social Network Utopia Isn’t Coming

Bottom line: Good health depends on good food, and good food must be real food.

We provided the copy-editing work for this book, and hired our friend Kelly Seow to give the book a special touch and a second set of eyes.

Fund this ‘stache!

In between hating Frappuccino drinkers, we had great fun. Fewer people had more inside jokes than Mike and me.

For awhile, we had a very uptight assistant manager. At one point, he mandated that we only give coffee cup sleeves for drinks for which the handbook required sleeves. In other words, unless requested specifically by the customer, we were only allowed to put sleeves on drip coffee, tea, espresso, and Americanos. The trouble is that pretty much everyone expects a cup sleeve these days.

So to add to the fun, when people would ask for a sleeve, if they couldn’t think of the name of it, we wouldn’t supply it. We would let them find a word to express what they needed. Hand motions wouldn’t suffice either. We played dumb.

Here is the customer made list we gradually compiled; and folks, we aren’t making this up:

Cup Gripper

Protector

Java Jacket

Bra

Cuff

Sleeve (you got it, pal!)

I started EB shortly after my 21st birthday, long before I really understood beer, but far enough along to recognize the superiority of certain beers. It went through several incarnations, and for a time even was anonymous (during my stint in Nashville’s Christian [read: Baptist] music industry).

My rating system was pretty fun:

5 Beers = On Tap in Heaven

4 Beers = One of Earth’s Best Offerings

3 Beers = Good Beer for Good Times

2 Beers = If There’s Nothing Else

1 Beer = Don’t Put this Crap on Tap

I wouldn’t mind selling this domain, but I’m tempted to hang onto it and do something really great with it someday.

JameyB.com was my personal blog on Wittenberg Hall where I...

JameyB.com was my personal blog on Wittenberg Hall where I posted writings and thoughts about anything miscellaneous - in other words, not related to the subjets of the other sites (such as classical education, beer, or eschatology).

This was a collaborative effort between Bob Herdman, Josh Babyar, and me, intended to be considered for the children’s imprint of Flicker Records, Big House Kids. It never went anywhere, but it was fun. Originally meant to be more like the Wiggles + animals, budget restrictions left us with a green screen and a Blues Clues-esque show. The music is still up at myspace for the time being.

Postmillennialism.com
Postmillennialism is the eschatological...

Postmillennialism.com

Postmillennialism is the eschatological school of thought in Christian theology that says that the Gospel will fill the earth, gradually converting the world to Christ. Eventually, says postmillennial thought, the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters covers the sea, and all this prior to the Second Coming of Christ. As you may have noticed, this is quite a contrast to the popular Left Behind theology. In addition, most of us believe that the Great Tribulation is in reference to the events leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple in AD 70.

I became convinced of postmillennialism at 19 years old, and became a rabid proponent of the teaching. I registered postmillennialism.com in 2000, and deliberately opened it on Easter in commemoration of Christ’s victory over sin and death through his death and resurrection.

The site went through several incarnations over its 11 year history. During that time, it helped to open many doors of opportunity for me, and I made many friends through it. I’m particularly fond of the period where we had an active discussion board…that was our social networking.

Originally titled Folks, It’s Not That Bad!, the site motto has always been “Optimistic eschatology in the midst of Christian pessimism.”

I might bring it back someday, but for now it’s going to have rest for a while.

My Latest Endeavor

Royal Ruckus, Pocket Lint and Spare Change
Released 2001. Deluxe Edition released through Neopolis Media, 2008.

Originally intended as a 5 song demo, this album was later re-released with 15 tracks. I wrote and rapped songs, co-produced some of them, along with my partner Mike Walker. Pigeon John produced the demo, which included a little help from our friends the Skalastix, 80s rap legend the Rappin’ Duke, and Todd Collins.

We re-released the record in 2008 with a little help from Flynn Adam of LA Symphony and Rootbeer. It is available in MP3 format and in physical CD form.

The brain child of my friend Michelle Borquez Thornton, Shine...

The brain child of my friend Michelle Borquez Thornton, Shine Magazine was an evangelical women’s magazine, covering arts, entertainment, fashion, food, and beyond.

I was the Associate Editor of Shine Magazine from roughly 2004-2006. In addition to editing each article before it went to the graphics department, I transcribed and edited many of the interviews. One of the more interesting interviews I remember was with Maia Morgenstern, the actress who played Mary in The Passion of the Christ.

Wittenberg Hall was the blog that never wanted to be a blog. I saw it more as a theological webzine - sort of a reimagined RazorMouth 2.0. Really, it was a family of sites that covered beer, education, eschatology, theology, culture, and more. Inspired by Martin Luther, my intention was to have a historically ecumenical blog that highlighted thoughtful Christian thinking from a number of perspectives. I saw Wittenberg as an excellent bridge - for Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants alike.

I ran the site with a little help from friends. Our contributors were eclectic, and included Orthodox, Anglican, and Reformed men, including Dr. Thomas Askew, Fr. Stephen Freeman, Dr. George Grant, Eric Holmberg, Bishop Lucien Lindsey, Rev. Steve Schlissel, Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr., and Rev. Dr. Peter Toon. Occasionally, Robbie Grayson, Gary DeMar, David Bunker, P. Andrew Sandlin, and Alison Sailer offered their expertise. For a time, we partnered with my friend Gregg Strawbridge’s WordMp3.com and offered free downloads of lectures and sermons from various Christian thinkers.

It was plenty fun. I ran the main site from 2005 - 2011, but posting was somewhat irregular beginning in 2009 or so. Ultimately, my move to Hawaii, and then my conversion to Orthodox Christianity, led to the site going dormant. I’m pulling the site soon, but I’ll hang onto the domains for a while.

What is it with Mr. Neopolis?

What is it with Mr. Neopolis?:

I’m not much of a hockey fan, but this book made me want to be. A modest collection of hockey-loving stories, Ewert celebrates hockey like only a Canadian could.

I met @jasonfrankewert when he lived in Moscow, Idaho, and we’re twitter pals. He’s a cool guy.

I copy-edited this book.

Published by Canon Press, 2009. 86 pages.
